Prafulla Chandra Sen Government Medical College and Hospital
100 kWp solar installation for Arambagh Medical College - Healthcare & Medical Education sector, Arambagh, West Bengal.
Project overview
Prafulla Chandra Sen Government Medical College and Hospital is a West Bengal government medical college and teaching hospital in Arambagh, Hooghly district. It is named after Prafulla Chandra Sen, a former Chief Minister of West Bengal closely associated with Arambagh. It was created by upgrading the Arambagh Sub-Divisional Hospital into a 594-bed teaching hospital. It serves a large rural area of western Hooghly and neighbouring districts. It is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences and recognised by the National Medical Commission. It admitted its first batch of MBBS students in 2022–23. A government hospital this size runs around the clock. Wards, operating theatres, emergency and critical care, diagnostics, laboratories, water pumping, lifts and lighting all need a steady power supply, and electricity is a major running cost for the public health system. Fender Energy designed, supplied and installed a 100 kWp grid-connected rooftop solar plant on the campus. It uses Panasonic 335 Wp polycrystalline modules paired with ABB inverters rated at 100 kW. Our team installed the plant safely on a working hospital campus, and handled the WBSEDCL approvals and grid synchronisation. We commissioned the plant in August 2023. The plant is expected to generate about 1.25 lakh units (kWh) of clean electricity a year. It cuts the hospital’s daytime grid electricity use, frees public money for patient care and avoids an estimated 90 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. It is a practical example of the state’s push for clean energy in government hospitals and buildings.
